On Saturday July 4th at 5:41 P.M. Huntington Manor firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at the Rodeway Inn on Jericho Turnpike. Police Officers from the 2nd Precinct were on scene and informed Chief Jon Hoffmann of a fire in a common hallway on the 2nd floor of the hotel. An officer from the 2nd Precinct prior to the fire department’s arrivial and braving the heat and smoke, crawled into the hallway and was able to extinguish a majority of the fire with a fire extinguisher. There was a heavy smoke condition in the hallway and several guests were able to self evacuate the building. Firefighters from Engine 3 extinguished the remainder of the fire while crews from Engine 17 and Ladder 6 checked for any extension and possible victims. All searches were negative. The fire was determined to be suspicious in nature and the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad and Town of Huntington Fire Marshals were requested to the scene. All units were under the command of Chief Jon Hoffmann and Assistant Chief James Glidden. There were no reported injuries.
